Vocational Studies | Who we are Dan Gilligan - Head of Faculty Kay Baker Jashinder Bains Elaine Canon Helene Schoeman Tuesday Roberts-Lynch Nicky Beech John Whitfield Maryam Bello Joanne Norman What we do We offer qualifications that are more about the practical working-life aspects of a subject. In Business Studies, students will find out about what type of jobs are available and the skills they need to get them. In Hospitality and Catering, students look in detail at one area of employment like hotels, find about the jobs on offer and what they will need to learn to get them. In Health and Social Care a visitor might come in from the NHS Local Primary Care Trust or Hospital and explain about the various jobs. We then teach you the skills you need for these jobs. How we do it We use traditional materials such as textbooks but there is a great deal of independent research and personal choice involved. Students have a lot of contact with the outside world of work through visits, speakers and may even have mentors.
At Key Stage 3
We offer a taster courses for all Year 9 students such as: passport to employability, enterprise and hospitality and catering. This allows all students to get a flavour of some of our vocational courses that they choose to follow in Year 10.
At Key Stage 4
We offer a range of courses. These include: Business Studies, Health and Social Care, Hospitality and Catering, Performing Arts, Sports and Travel and Tourism. All these qualifications lead to be BTEC First Level 1 or 2 qualifications. The level 2 qualification is equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grade C and above. How will I be assessed?
All of the BTEC courses are 100% coursework, so there will not be any examinations to sit. Click here for BTEC Handbook
 Will the course suit me?
The students who benefit from our courses are those that are interested in a particular career and are enthusiastic and motivated, can work independently and like researching to find out information. |
