Initial Teacher Training (ITT)
ITT is one of the great strengths of the school. The Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP), Teach first (TF), iTeach and Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) programmes are highly regarded by our trainees and partnership Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs).

This is a result of the wealth of experience coupled with our enthusiasm and commitment to innovative practice. The whole school community contributes to trainees achieving the excellence that we expect and that our students deserve.

What is unique and special about completing your School Placement at CFGS?

  • We work in partnership with Institute of Education (IOE), Central school of Speech and Drama, University of East London (UEL), London Metropolitan, Middlesex, Goldsmiths, Canterbury, Cumbria and Greenwich Universities. This ensures diverse, stimulating and rich learning conversations and opportunities for trainees.

  • Year on year, the training programme is commended for its high quality, relevance and innovative practices.  Trainees learn the skills of providing written and oral feedback to trainers to help ensure the quality of training is consistently high.

  • CFGS provides a reciprocal learning environment in which students are systematically consulted in order to improve the quality of your classroom practice.  Student Teachers all have the opportunity to co-plan lessons with trained students who then observe and give constructive feedback on classroom practice.

  • The needs of the individual are always central to the ethos of success we promote.

  • We consciously teach and promote professional values and practice.

  • We welcome trainees placed in other schools to any of our training sessions and currently provide all the professional development workshops for a neighbouring boys’ school.

  • All our training sessions model strategies for collaborative learning to use in the classroom.  This greatly extends trainees’ repertoire of teaching techniques.

Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP)

This is a one year hands-on programme run in conjunction with the University of East London, (UEL). CFGS has an excellent record and teachers in Maths, ICT, Psychology, Geography, Science, History, RE, Art & Design, Drama, D&T and English have started their teaching careers using this route at CFGS.

We are looking for creative, enthusiastic trainees to contribute to life long learning for all at CFGS.  Recruitment for a September 2011 start will take place in September 2010 so do contact the school then, with a letter clearly stating your qualifications, chosen subject (which must be your degree subject), experience with young people and why you are interested in teaching.  As we have an enormous number of enquiries for the GTP route, please make sure that the information you provide is of high quality as we will use this to decide whom we invite to fill in an application form.

Do you have the ability to make all students feel valued, organise a varied workload, communicate effectively within the whole school community and work as part of a team committed to success for all?
